Fexturate
A generational line of mentorship wherein expertise, usually in an artisinal craft, is handed down to new mentees, who in turn instruct subsequent generations after they attain mastery. It is typical for a fexturate to continuously inhabit a single dwelling, usually a shophouse, and for new applicants to move in to live and work there after being accepted.
A fexturate has similar connotations and dynamics as a ‘family business’, except it is not based on familial ties. It is not uncommon for a given fexturate to closely guard it’s trade secrets, to maintain it’s reputation and advantage over rival shophouses.
